More train services for Chesterfield as East Midlands Trains launches new timetable

Article posted on 24/05/2010

Passengers travelling from Chesterfield are set to benefit from an additional six trains to London every weekday and Saturday with the launch of the new East Midlands Trains timetable today.

East Midlands Trains launched its new service offering two trains an hour from Sheffield to London in December 2009 as the result of a successful partnership with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward.  Now, passengers will see even further improvements with these services calling additionally at Chesterfield.

Commenting, David Horne, Commercial Director of East Midlands Trains, said: “Following the launch of our new services between Sheffield and London last year, we have been determined to extend these improvements to passengers travelling from Chesterfield.

“Good rail links play a crucial role in the development of towns such as Chesterfield, and we are extremely pleased that passengers will soon be benefiting from these additional services, which will provide greater choice and flexibility.”

David Young, Director of Customer Experience at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, said: "I am delighted at the announcement of these new services, which offer Chesterfield yet greater connectivity to Sheffield City Region and the capital.

“This joint investment, in partnership with Yorkshire Forward, represents a further boost to passengers travelling from Chesterfield following the introduction of the half-hourly service from Sheffield, and should give people even more travel options across the region."

The new service also provides Chesterfield with a direct train every hour to Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway (for East Midlands Airport), two trains every hour direct to Leicester and three trains every hour to Derby.
