Alsager station garden extended

Article posted on 16/11/2009

Alsager station volunteers will be rolling up their sleeves for a planting frenzy on Tuesday 17 November.

Thanks to a £250 grant for new plants won by North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership from the Association of Community Rail Partnerships volunteers will be taking delivery of almost 100 evergreen shrubs to plant up a new bed on Platform 1.

New life was first breathed back into the station gardens at Alsager last year, when the station "Friends" group - all volunteers from the village and nearby - cleared and replanted the garden beds.

The group’s continued hard work to maintain the gardens and help to keep the station clean and tidy, has been rewarded with colourful displays throughout the year and won many compliments and thanks from passengers and the local community.

Community Rail Partnership Officer Faye Lambert said: “The Alsager ‘Friends’ volunteers are a prime example of the impact of community rail on local stations and services and they each do a great job keeping the station looking good for passengers.”

Claire Ansley, Route Manager for East Midlands Trains, said: “The work that the volunteers have done so far on brightening up the station has been absolutely fantastic and we are delighted with the results. It’s great news that the station is set to benefit from a further planting session and we are very grateful to all volunteers for their hard work.”
