Children’s artwork brightens up local stations

Article posted on 23/02/2010

Children from a North Staffordshire primary school have pooled their artistic talents to create some colourful paintings for two local rail stations.

The paintings were designed and produced for display at Kidsgrove and Longport stations by 11 pupils from Kidsgrove’s Reginald Mitchell Primary School as part of a project developed by the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership to promote the Crewe-Stoke-Derby rail service.

The paintings, depicting rolling stock and local views, promote rail travel and welcome passengers to their local station.

Partnership Officer, Faye Lambert, said: “A major part of our work is to involve the community in station improvements to inspire local pride and create awareness of the local rail service. The children have done a great job, coming up with some vibrant designs, full of character. We hope passengers enjoy seeing the children’s creativity on display.”

Headteacher at Reginald Mitchell Primary Alan Stancliffe said: “We were delighted to be part of the project and it’s proved to be a really enjoyable and creative exercise for the children. It is also helped them to learn about trains and rail travel.”

Claire Ansley, Route Manager for East Midlands Trains, added: “We want our stations to be as welcoming as possible for passengers using them, and we’re sure that they will be delighted to see the lovely paintings created by the children at Reginald Mitchell Primary School. They will certainly help brighten up Kidsgrove and Longport stations.”
