As major work to dismantle and completely rebuild the platform canopies at Derby train station continues, this week sees the move of the First Class passenger lounge to platform one and the introduction of free WiFi in the lounge.
To allow work on platform six to take place, the current lounge on platform six will close on Friday 4 July 2008 and re-open at the south end of platform one on Monday 7 July 2008.
Karen Miller, Station Manager at Derby, said, “I hope the introduction of free WiFi for passengers using the First Class lounge will be welcomed by those using the area whilst waiting for their train.
“The move to platform one will not inconvenience passengers as London services will also arrive and depart from the same platform.
“We thank passengers for their patience during these works, which will see a much improved facility for passengers using the station at Derby when complete.”
The First Class lounge at Derby is open Monday to Friday from 0620 to 2000.
The lounge provides a range of facilities including hot and cold drinks, complimentary snacks, newspapers, BBC News 24 and, from this week, of course, WiFi access.
Work currently taking place at the station will see the erection of new canopies and includes the installation of lifts accessing all platforms.
