Improvements for passengers using Blythe Bridge station

Article posted on 27/01/2010

Facilities at Blythe Bridge station on the North Staffordshire Line have been upgraded.

New customer information screens (CIS), which help keep passengers more informed about local rail services, have been installed on both platforms. The screens display up-to-date train arrival and departure times.

New anti-vandal-design shelters have also recently been installed, providing a modern and sustainable waiting facility for passengers using the hourly East Midlands Trains’ Crewe-Derby service, which serves the station.

Blythe Bridge station is also now covered by CCTV, which has been installed both as a deterrent against incidents of minor vandalism and to improve the security of passengers waiting at what is an unstaffed station.

The new facilities, part of a rolling programme of station improvements for the North Staffordshire Line, have been delivered by the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (NSCRP).

The CIS at Blythe Bridge is part of a project joint-funded by the Department for Transport "Access for All" fund, East Midlands Trains and NSCRP member Staffordshire County Council, which has, with match-funding by other local authority partners, provided CIS systems at four individual stations on the North Staffordshire Line. Funding for the CCTV system and new waiting shelters has been provided by Staffordshire County Council, with all projects being rolled out by train operator East Midlands Trains.

Other projects also delivered at Blythe Bridge station by the Partnership include the provision of new platform signage, passenger noticeboards and painting using anti-vandal coatings
