LOCAL SCHOOLCHILDREN JOIN EAST MIDLANDS TRAINS TO TRANSFORM MATLOCK BATH STATION

Local schoolchildren from Matlock Bath Primary School are joining forces with staff from East Midlands Trains and the Derwent Valley Community Rail Partnership to transform Matlock Bath station into a bright, friendly and welcoming railway station.

Whilst East Midlands Trains staff carry out a makeover on the station by re-painting waiting areas, fences and replacing the station signage, children from the school’s Gardening Club will be getting their gardening gloves out to create some miniature gardens for the station. Once complete the colourful gardens will sit neatly in large trough containers made of recycled timber, which have been specially sourced for the station.

Work on the transformation will be taking place on Friday 2 July and media are invited to join the schoolchildren as well as representatives from East Midlands Trains and the Derwent Valley Community Rail Partnership for a sneak preview of the changes.

Claire Ansley, Route Manager for East Midlands Trains, who will be leading the painting team on the day, said: “This is a great example of how the local community can work with us to make some fantastic improvements.  We’re really excited about the changes planned for Matlock Bath station and are grateful to all the children and the other volunteers involved for their hard work.”

In addition to the new miniature gardens at the station, the children will also be carrying out an art project to provide some bright and colourful paintings and drawings for display in the inside of the station’s waiting shelter.  The children will be working on the project after the school holidays and they will be on display during the Autumn.

For further information, or to confirm attendance please contact Emma Knight on 07771 830995.   Media interviews are available on request.
