New northbound service from Corby to Derby
Faster trains and extra Saturday service to London
New timetable available online
Corby is set to benefit from some major timetable improvements from today with the launch of the new East Midlands Trains timetable.
For the first time since the opening of the station, Corby will have a new direct service to Derby providing a link for train services to Scotland and northern England. The train will leave Corby station every weekday at 09.30, calling at Oakham, Melton Mowbray and East Midlands Parkway, before arriving into Derby at 10.40. The service will return from Derby at 16.34, arriving into Corby at 17.52.
In addition to this new northbound service, there will also be improvements to services between Corby and London following the commissioning of new signalling equipment by Network Rail. Trains which previously needed a waiting time at Kettering of up to 30 minutes will now be able to run as normal via Kettering, delivering faster journey times on many services. Weekend travellers will also benefit from an additional Saturday service to London with the introduction of a new train starting from Corby at 10.17.
David Horne, Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “We’re delighted to be delivering these additional timetable improvements for Corby. Our first year of running services between Corby and London proved very successful, with passenger numbers exceeding expectations and more than 97% of our trains running on time.
“We’re hoping that this package of improvements for Corby will encourage even more people to give the train a try. And, to provide a bargain opportunity, we’re holding our second Red Dot Day on 5 June with tickets priced at just £10 return!”.
Simon Evans, Chief Executive of NNDC, said: “This latest investment in the Corby timetable builds on the success of the direct London service and will make public transport an increasingly viable option for local people travelling to other parts of the country.
The northbound service will also greatly enhance local links to other major transport connections such as East Midlands Airport. “
Deputy Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Pengelly, said: ”Just over a year ago we opened our modern new rail station in Corby, ending the 40 year wait for the service. Now I am very pleased to see that we are already increasing and improving this service, giving customers the opportunity to travel northbound for the first time from Corby and making rail travel more convenient.”
