Travel by Train and Visit Top Attractions at Discount Prices

Article posted on 25/05/2010

Now that summer has finally arrived, why not escape the city with a day out on the Derwent Valley Line.  Travel by train on the scenic line, direct from Nottingham or Derby and enjoy great discounts at tourism attractions along the way.

A number of attractions along the Derwent Valley Line are offering some credit-crunch beating discounts for rail passengers. Children can travel free with each adult or senior on the Cable Car to the summit of the Heights of Abraham and explore the impressive Masson Cavern and much more besides.  And, in Matlock Bath, two visitors can explore for the price of one in the underground caverns at the Peak District Mining Museum. The nearby Cromford Mill and Masson Mills are also offering discounts for rail passengers on tours of the historic mills, which are part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Visitors can also take a discounted journey back in time at Crich Tramway Village and Peak Rail in Matlock.

John Coulson, marketing manager from the Heights of Abraham, said: “Arriving via Matlock Bath station for the Heights of Abraham, makes your journey less stressful, avoids the traffic, searching for a parking space..... giving you more time to enjoy your day out.”

Councillor Garry Purdy, chair of the Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership, said:  “These great offers provide an even greater reason to visit the Derwent Valley by train and enjoy a fun-filled day, with so many great attractions easily accessible by train using the hourly train service from Derby and Nottingham.”

Emma Knight from East Midlands Trains added : “Our frequent train service between Nottingham, Derby and Matlock provides plenty of opportunity for visitors to see some of the fantastic sights of the Derwent Valley.  And, with prices starting from just £7.40 for an Off Peak Day return from Nottingham to Matlock, we’re encouraging people to leave the car at home and take a relaxing, stress free trip on the train!”

Visitors using the Derwent Valley Line can take advantage of these fantastic offers by using the discount vouchers included in ‘Your Guide to the Derwent Valley Line’ leaflet, available to download from www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/derwentvalleyline from Tourist Information Centres, local libraries, staffed train stations or from Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.
