  • Improvements made from Monday 3 February

Rail passengers in Oakham will benefit from extended ticket office opening hours from Sunday 2 February.

The opening hours will initially be extended by 75 minutes every weekday, providing a service from 06.30 until 14.00.  In the longer term, there are plans to extend the opening times even further, increase staff numbers and open a second ticket window.

From Monday 3 February, the ticket office will be run on behalf of East Midlands Trains by Oakham Station Travel Ltd.  This family-run business has seven years’ experience in successfully running the ticket office at Ludlow station.

Andy Moore, Head of Stations for East Midlands Trains, said: “We’re pleased to offering passengers in Oakham an improved service with longer ticket office opening hours.  We have been very impressed with the operation at Ludlow and there has been some great feedback from local stakeholders and passengers on the service provided there. We are confident that Oakham Station Travel will offer the high quality service our customers expect.”

Ian Stewart from Oakham Station Travel Ltd said: “This is a great opportunity for us to build on our experiences of managing the ticket office at Ludlow over the last seven years.   Our priority is creating a good rapport with the customers at Oakham and delivering a high level of customer service for them.
