East Midlands Trains employees were among the winners at the annual Stagecoach Group Champions Awards.
The awards – now in their sixth year – recognise excellence over six areas including Safety, Health, Community, Customer Service, Environment and Innovation.
At this year’s ceremony East Midlands Trains employee Kassam Pinjara was awarded the Gold Customer Service Champion award while Sharon Angel received the Bronze Community Champion award.
Winners at the event represented Stagecoach Group’s bus, rail, tram and coach businesses in Europe and North America . All received a trophy, cash prize and a two night stay in London incorporating the award ceremony.
Gold Customer Service Champion Kassam, a customer welcome host based at St Pancras Station, has worked for the rail industry for over 30 years and is a fantastic ambassador for the entire rail industry. He is hard working, fiercely proud, reliable and professional. He seeks no acknowledgement for what he does and he believes it’s nothing special, but London’s St Pancras wouldn’t be the same without him and his big smile which greets customers every day.
Bronze Community Champion Sharon – a Sheffield Station travel advisor - received her award after going the extra mile to ensure that young people are educated in rail safety. She has developed a package of materials to transform a schools visit programme and is now leading a project to roll out the new approach across East Midlands Trains.
East Midlands Trains Managing Director Jake Kelly said: “I am delighted for Kassam and Sharon and would like to congratulate them on these awards which are thoroughly deserved.
“They make a real difference to our business and to our customers every day and I would like to thank them, and our many other hard-working staff, for the part they play in delivering high-quality services to our passengers.”
