East Midlands Trains will be providing hundreds of extra seats for race-goers travelling to the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Saturday 19 March.

Extra carriages will be provided on the majority of services on the route between Derby and Crewe throughout the day, with more than double the normal capacity available on most services before and after the races.

An additional train will also run from Uttoxeter to Derby at 18.24 for customers returning from the races.

Trains are expected to be extremely busy throughout the day and customers are advised to check their train times in advance of travel, and allow plenty of time for their journey.

Extra customer service staff will be available at Derby and Uttoxeter stations to help customers with their journeys.

Jayne Moyses, Head of Customer Information and Service Centre for East Midlands Trains, said: “We’ve got lots of experience of helping race-goers get to the popular Midlands Grand National, and this year we’ll be providing hundreds of extra seats on services to and from Uttoxeter before and after the races.

“We’re providing the absolute maximum number of seats we can on Saturday, but it’s such a popular race that we are still expecting our trains to be very busy. We’re therefore advising customers to check the timetable before they travel and allow plenty of time for their journey.  We will have extra staff on hand at stations to help customers and the team in our 24/7 customer contact centre will also be available to answer any queries.

”In addition, East Midlands Trains will also be providing extra carriages on trains on the Nottingham to Matlock route for football fans travelling to the Derby County vs Nottingham Forest game which kicks off at 12.30 on Saturday 19 March.

Jayne continues: “We know it’s going to be a very popular day for sports on our network and we’ve worked hard to provide as much space as we can for both of these big events.”
