East Midlands Trains selling more cheap train tickets than ever before

Train operator East Midlands Trains has announced today that last week saw the highest ever number of passengers booking an Advance rail ticket to bag a bargain for travel to London. Some 53,000 passengers booked an Advance ticket last week, which was the highest number ever.

East Midlands Trains Managing Director, Tim Shoveller said, “This is great news for us. Despite the current economic climate we are still attracting new passengers by offering a range of tickets to suit all pockets.

“Passenger numbers since privatisation have risen by more than 75% and are still rising. With the rising cost of fuel and obvious green benefits of rail travel more people than ever before are choosing to travel by train.

“We offer a great range of tickets to suit all budgets. By booking in advance and being flexible with travel plans, people can travel to London on our route for just £12 or less one way. And these are tickets that really are there for the taking. Around half of the 53,000 people who booked a ticket for London last week will travel for £20 or less. There are still plenty of bargains to be had with another 250,000 more of these Advance tickets made available in the lead up to Christmas.”

How to book cheap train tickets:

  • Book in advance  - in general, tickets go on sale around 12 weeks before departure
  • Be flexible with travel plans – the cheapest tickets will generally be more freely available on off-peak services, which are not as busy.
