"Every little helps" Longton Station

A variety of organisations, including Tesco, are coming together on Wednesday 27 June 2012 to help North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (NSCRP) and East Midlands Trains spring clean Longton station.

The event is the next in a series of very successful 'Station Community Days' held at stations on the North Staffordshire Line (Crewe-Stoke-Derby route), which support the work of station volunteers to improve stations for passengers.

Longton station volunteers and volunteers from some of the other stations on the route will be working alongside staff from East Midlands Trains, Network Rail, British Transport Police, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) on gardening, litter picking and cleaning activities.

In addition, a number of staff from Tesco Longton are turning out to lend a hand, and the store is also sponsoring the event by providing refreshments for everyone attending on the day.

Faye Lambert, Project Officer for the NSCRP, said: "Station Community Days are a great example of how different agencies pull together to make a real difference for passengers. We are delighted that Tesco is going to be part of both this and another Community Day at Kidsgrove station on 5 July, which will really add value to our aim to develop the local rail service for the community."

Jonny Wiseman, Route Manager for East Midlands Trains, said: "It's great news that so many people are turning out to give Longton a mini-makeover.   We're already investing millions of pounds to improve the stations on our route, but we really value the help and support of our local communities in making our stations look even better."

Photographers are welcome to attend the Longton Station Community Day event on Wednesday 27 June anytime between 1100 and 1200 hours, and Kidsgrove Station Community Day event on Thursday 5 July at 1100 hours. Please ask for Faye Lambert on arrival.
