East Midlands Trains has announced that 50 extra car parking spaces are to be created at Loughborough station for its rail customers.
The new car parking spaces will be located in an additional car park facility to the left hand side of the current entrance, on a piece of land that is currently unused by Network Rail. Network Rail has worked with East Midlands Trains on the development of the plans that will see the extra 50 spaces opened in late summer. The additional car park will have CCTV and lighting.
Jake Kelly, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “This is great news for customers in Loughborough. We regularly receive feedback from people asking for more spaces as the current car park is so well used, so we’re really pleased to be able to deliver this for our customers.
“We’ll be working over the summer on the additional car park and hope to have the extra spaces available by August.“
Our thanks go to Network Rail for helping us to drive forward this great improvement for our customers in Loughborough.”
Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director at Network Rail, said: “We are delighted that customers at Loughborough station will soon be able make the most of the additional parking spaces. This will make using the station easier for customers and ensures that we meet the needs of the communities and economies which our railway serves.
“We have worked extremely closely with Nicky Morgan MP and East Midlands Trains on this project which will benefit existing station users, as well encouraging more people to use the station. This illustrates how we continue to evolve to work as one industry, providing the best possible service for passengers by working together.”
Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough added: “I’d like to thank East Midlands Trains and Network Rail for taking on board the comments from their customers about the need for more car parking spaces. I have been discussing this with them for a while It is great to see Loughborough station is so popular but I know the lack of parking spaces was worrying constituents so I hope this means they will now be able to focus on their journeys instead.”
