News from East Midlands Trains

17.12.2008

Hear ye, hear ye, the train now leaving Lincoln goes straight to London with no changes!

Lincoln’s recently appointed Town Crier, Karen Crow, had some great news to shout about this morning when she joined East Midlands Trains’ Director David Maxwell and Lincoln Mayor Cllr Ron Hills to officially dispatch the first direct train service from Lincoln to London since the 1960s – by ringing her bell.

This brand new service will run daily on weekdays and Saturdays.  It will leave Lincoln at 07.08, arriving in the capital at 10.00, and return at 18.30, arriving back at Lincoln at 21.24.

David Maxwell of East Midlands Trains, said:

“Our new timetable will bring many benefits for our whole network, including more trains on key routes, faster journey times and improved connections, but we are particularly proud to be delivering this new, direct service between Lincoln and London.

“As one of the key tourist destinations on our route, we are keen to provide the opportunity for people to visit the fantastic city of Lincoln without the inconvenience of having to change trains and transfer luggage across stations. It will also be a more relaxing journey for Lincoln passengers travelling to London for work or leisure.”

Lincoln’s Mayor Cllr Ron Hills, said:  “This is the start of the improvement to our service in Lincoln and I look forward to the day when further services and routes to our capital are available.”
