Leicester City legend Steve Walsh unveils Railway Station's newly refurbished First Class Lounge

Rail passengers in Leicester were treated to a special visit from a true Leicester Legend this week, as former Foxes player Steve Walsh visited to officially unveil the station’s newly refurbished First Class Lounge.

The station’s First Class Lounge, located on platform 3, has been refurbished as part of East Midlands Trains’ ongoing £10 million station enhancement programme to deliver improved facilities at a large number of stations across its network.

At the opening, Wayne Kyte, Route Manager Leicestershire for East Midlands Trains, said: “Leicester station has recently seen some significant improvements as part of our £10 million enhancement programme which will benefit all passengers using the station.  We’re particularly excited to have had such a distinguished guest to open our newly refurbished First Class lounge and we hope our passengers enjoy using the new look facility.”

Steve Walsh, Leicester City football club’s former captain and one of the club’s best loved players, said:  “It’s a great facility and I’m looking forward to using the Lounge and getting First Class treatment on my next train trip to London!”

Other improvements at Leicester include the full refurbishment of the Standard Class waiting rooms located on both platforms, and all passenger toilets throughout the station.  As well as providing brand new services of a consistent level, the toilets now feature light and tap sensors to help reduce waste of water and electricity and provide a more hygienic facility for passengers.

The First Class Lounge is open on Mondays to Fridays from 05.45 to 12.30 and provides complimentary refreshments, newspapers and WiFi for East Midlands Trains’ First Class passengers.  First Class Lounges are also available at London St Pancras, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield and a brand new Business Lounge has also recently been opened at East Midlands Parkway.
