School children from Osgodby Primary School in Market Rasen are being taken on a very special trip by East Midlands Trains on Monday 23 May as a thank you for their help in designing new station safety posters.
The primary school children, aged between 7 and 11, were asked by East Midlands Trains and the Market Rasen Station Adoption Group to come up with designs for new station posters for display at Market Rasen promoting the importance of safety. The posters show the importance of safety on the railway and are now proudly on display in the shelter at the station.
As a thank you for their help with this project, East Midlands Trains has arranged a very special trip for the children. East Midlands Trains managers from Lincolnshire will visit the school on the morning of Monday 23 May during assembly to present the whole school with goody bags including inflatable beach balls, pencils and colouring books.
Then, East Midlands Trains has teamed up with sister company Stagecoach Bus to give the children a trip on one of the award-winning open top Skegness Seasider Buses. Around 60 children and their teachers will be taken by bus to visit Market Rasen station and see their posters on display. Mascot Rocky will also be joining in with the fun.
Rob Mercer, Area Station Manager Lincoln for East Midlands Trains, said: “We’re really proud to have worked with the local station adoption group and the children from Osgodby School to do something really different at Market Rasen station.
“Whilst it’s our number one priority, key safety messages can sometimes be a little difficult to get across, but the new posters designed by these children are so eye-catching and at the same time get across some important messages about some of the dangers that can be encountered on the railway.
“We’d like to thank all the children for their hard work on the poster designs and our colleagues in Stagecoach Bus for helping us to arrange this special trip which we’re sure the children will love.”
Jill Fincham, Headteacher at Osgodby Primary School, added: “We were delighted to be involved with this project, it has helped to educate the children about the importance of safety when travelling by rail as well as being fun. It will be extra special being able to see the posters on display at the station.”
