Nottingham station named as winner in national awards ceremony


  • Winner of Best Large Station in the National Rail Awards
  • £60m improvement scheme has delivered dramatic improvements
  • Beat off competition from other major stations including Huddersfield and Reading
  • East Midlands Trains Customer Service Officer from Sleaford also highly commended

Nottingham station has been named as winner of a national award for the best large station in the country, beating off competition from other major stations across the UK including Huddersfield and Reading.

The award, presented at the National Rail Awards on 22 September, follows a £60m redevelopment of the station, creating a world-class transport hub. The new look station has been designed to dramatically enhance the customer experience, improve the city’s connectivity and encourage greater opportunities for investment and growth.

Customers now benefit from much-improved facilities, including better access to other forms of transport, a new range of shops and cafes as well as the stunning restoration of the station's Edwardian frontage.

Andrew Conroy, Customer Experience Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for everybody who worked on the station improvement scheme. Most importantly however, it’s recognition for our staff who work at the station and on our trains helping the millions of customers travelling to and from Nottingham every year.

“I’d also like to pass on my heartfelt congratulations to Kim Cinavas from Sleaford station, who was highly commended in the Outstanding Personal Contribution Award. As one of only two employees at this small station, Kim has become very well known and loved in the local community, particularly for her cakes which she often brings in for customers at the station!”
