Passengers set to benefit from improved train services with launch of new East Midlands Trains timetable

Passengers travelling on East Midlands Trains are set to benefit from more trains and improved connections with the launch of the new timetable on Sunday 13 December.

One of the key changes will be the introduction of more train services between Sheffield and London.  As the result of a successful partnership with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and Yorkshire Forward, Monday 14 December will mark the launch of a brand new train service that will see the current hourly service increasing to two trains an hour, bringing substantial improvements for the region.  The introduction of these services will also mean better links between Sheffield and key cities in the East Midlands, such as Derby and Leicester, as well as a new hourly service to East Midlands Parkway station, which is located near to East Midlands Airport.

Tim Shoveller, Managing Director of East Midlands Trains comments: “Our December 2008 timetable resulted in some of the biggest changes on our network since 1999 and has been a great success, with marked improvements in both punctuality and customer satisfaction.

“Building on that success, we have been listening to feedback from our passengers, and working with local authorities to see how we can improve our services even further.   We are particularly excited to be launching the new services between Sheffield and London, which highlight just how much can be achieved through partnership working.

“The new Sheffield services will provide Leicester, Loughborough and Long Eaton with hourly direct services to/from Sheffield, making it easier for people to travel to do business or go on shopping trips within the East Midlands and South Yorkshire regions.

“This new timetable also provides better services to passengers in villages such as Aslockton, Cromford, Whatstandwell and Bulwell – demonstrating our commitment to providing continued improvements to the communities we serve throughout our regions.”

In addition to the new services from Sheffield, there will also be many other beneficial changes for passengers, including:

  • A new weekday morning commuter train to Sheffield providing passengers from Bedford, Luton, Wellingborough, Kettering, Market Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough an opportunity to arrive into Sheffield for a 09.00am start
  • Improved connections on the Derwent Valley Line (Matlock to Derby), meaning that passengers will be able to connect into services to London more easily
  • Launch of new Sunday services between Nottingham and Bulwell, on the Robin Hood Line
  • An improved service from Nottingham and Grantham to Aslockton
  • A faster evening service from London to Kettering and Market Harborough
  • In addition, and following passenger feedback, there has been a review of the trains where a full breakfast service is provided to enable us to better meet passenger needs.

Copies of our new timetables are available at rail stations and can also be downloaded online.
