Recent Delays on London Services - a message to our customers

We are sorry for the delays you have experienced when travelling on train services to and from London recently.  There have been a number of factors that have caused performance to fall below our normal high standards.

Our services have been affected by some infrastructure issues since the start of the year, including weather-related problems and cable theft. Train services have also been affected by the delivery of line speed improvements.

The line speed improvement programme is a £70 million scheme by Network Rail that delivers faster journey times on trains to London. However, the final stages of this programme are behind schedule and some services have experienced delays of around two or three minutes whilst this work is being completed.

By the start of April, most of the line speed improvement works will be complete and the published timetable will operate more reliably.  Further work will then be completed by Network Rail throughout the year to provide additional operational resilience.

We apologise that we have so far been unable to deliver all the promised journey time improvements on all of our train services.  East Midlands Trains does have a strong track record as the most reliable long distance train operator in the country over many years and we, East Midlands Trains and Network Rail, are determined to deliver the reliable services that our customers expect from us.

Thank you for your patience and please be reassured that we are doing everything possible to improve your service and deliver a better railway for you.
