Travel Information over Christmas and New year with East Midlands Trains

  • No major engineering works on East Midlands Trains over Christmas and New Year
  • Some travel changes from 20th December to 2nd January
  • Passengers reminded to double check their journey before setting off
  • Major works to the West Coast main line mean East Midlands Trains services likely to be very busy on 27th and 28th December

As the Christmas and New Year holiday period fast approaches, East Midlands Trains is reminding passengers to check before they travel.

There are no major engineering works taking place on East Midlands Trains during Christmas and New Year but there will be some changes to the usual timetable on services to and from London as well as local services.

Services will stop running earlier than normal on Christmas Eve and no services will operate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

In addition, major engineering works on the West Coast mainline (train services into London Euston) on 27th and 28th December, mean East Midlands Trains services to and from London are likely to be much busier than normal.

Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “We know that people will be using our train services to travel around and visit friends and family over Christmas, and many people will still need to travel to and from work.

“The vast majority of our services will continue to run during this time but there are some alterations to our usual timetable so I would encourage everyone to double check before travelling.

“Passengers travelling on our London services on the 27th and 28th December should also keep in mind that major engineering works on the West Coast main line may mean our trains are much busier than usual.”

The majority of services will run as normal between the 20th and 23rd December. On Christmas Eve, the last train from London St Pancras will depart at 20.29 (to Derby) with the last arrival into St Pancras at 20.33 (from Sheffield). Local services will also stop running earlier than usual.

On the 27th and 28th December, there will be a revised timetable in operation on the mainline route, with some journey times extended. There will be no direct train services between Corby and London St Pancras; passengers travelling to and from Corby will need to change trains at Kettering.

The normal East Midlands Trains timetable will resume on Friday 2nd January.
