What are Advance Tickets?
Advance train tickets are the best way to travel for less. You can benefit from Advance tickets if you can select to travel on a specific date and time. Advance tickets can be a great way to save on your train tickets if you can be flexible when you travel and are able to travel at a set time.
The prices of Advance tickets vary and usually increase in price closer to the date of travel and as there are only a limited number of Advance tickets available, it is advised to book your train tickets as early as possible to benefit from the cheapest tickets.

Advance train tickets are useful if you are certain that you will be able to commit to travelling at a specific time, on a specific day. So whether you’re looking for a shopping trip with friends, a weekend away or a visit to catch up with family, Advance tickets may mean you can save on your tickets.
Advance Tickets Release Dates
Advance tickets usually go on sale approximately 12 weeks prior to the travel date. On some occasions, Advance tickets may still be available up until 11:59pm the day prior to travel.
How to Buy Advance Train Tickets
Advance train tickets are available to purchase online and at stations. Our lowest Advance tickets purchased at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk also benefit from an additional £1 discount per ticket – therefore you could save an extra £2 on a return journey when booking Advance tickets online.
Advance Train Tickets and Railcards
Railcard holders can save even more on Advance tickets. Simply add your railcard when planning your journey online or show your railcard at the station when purchasing your tickets and you can save up to an additional 33% on the cost of an Advance ticket; normal Railcard terms and conditions apply.
Advance Tickets and Refunds
Advance tickets are non-refundable but can be exchanged for an alternative ticket prior to the departure of your train. A £10 administrative charge will apply when changing the time of your Advance ticket along with any difference in price between the price of your old and new ticket.
