Bedford and Luton

 

East Midlands Trains services will no longer call at Bedford or Luton during peak periods. This affects services to London in the morning and from London in the evening. Customers are advised to use Thameslink trains during these times.

We appreciate this change will be extremely inconvenient for passengers travelling to, from or through Bedford and Luton, which is why we’re doing everything we can to lessen the impact of these changes.

We strongly advise you to check the below information and our network map before you travel.

The services shown below will no longer call at Bedford:

●  Southbound - after the 0538 departure from Bedford, no other trains will call at Bedford until the 1013 departure from Bedford to London
●  Northbound - the last off-peak train that will call at Bedford will be the 1547 from London. After the evening peak, the first train that will call at Bedford will be the 1904 from London

The services shown below will no longer call at Luton:

●  Southbound - after the 0627 departure from Luton to London, no other trains will call at Luton until the 1028 departure from Luton to London
●  Northbound - the last off-peak train that will call at Luton will be the 1547 from London. After the evening peak, the first train that will call at Luton will be the 1904 from London

On weekdays, some off-peak departure times will change too:

Bedford to London

Trains at 17 and 47 minutes past will be at 23 and 13 minutes past.

London to Bedford

Trains at 01 and 29 minutes past will be at 47 and 05 minutes past.

 

Luton to London

Trains at 03 minutes past will be at 28 minutes past.

London to Luton

Trains at 01 minute past will be at 47 minutes past.

Weekend services

Services will continue to call at Bedford and Luton throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays – as well as during weekdays outside of the peak.

Travelling to/from Luton Airport Parkway

If you use East Midlands Trains services between Bedford, Luton and Luton Airport Parkway at peak times, you’ll need to take a Thameslink service instead. We will continue to call at Luton Airport Parkway.

Thameslink services

Thameslink will also introduce a new timetable from 20th May 2018, offering extra services to London.

There’ll continue to be regular Thameslink services from Bedford and Luton, with a number of faster services throughout peak times also calling at Luton and St Albans.

Faster services will depart Bedford at: 0622, 0652, 0722, 0752, 0822 and 0852.

Faster services will depart Luton at: 0639, 0709, 0739, 0809, 0839 and 0909.

Faster services in the evening will depart St Pancras at: 1621, 1651, 1721, 1751, 1821 and 1851.

Bus service

As we’ll no longer be stopping at Bedford during morning and evening peak times, you’ll need to use our bus service between Bedford and Wellingborough. This service offers town centre stops, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

It will run every half hour between Wellingborough and Bedford – timed to connect with train services.

At Bedford, it will leave from the front of the station – simply follow the signs for buses, located directly outside the front of the station. The bus stop nearest to the station entrance is for rail replacement buses.

At Wellingborough, the bus will depart from the roundabout, just next to Wellingborough station car park.

Check the bus timetable before you travel.

 

 

Get a 50% discount on your season ticket

East Midlands Trains season ticket holders travelling to Bedford via the bus service will be offered a discount of up to 50%. There’ll also be a 25% reduction on anytime fares for travel on the bus.

If you have already bought a season ticket for travel to Bedford, please contact CSC.manager@eastmidlandstrains.co.uk to arrange your partial refund. Your discount will automatically be applied to tickets bought after 20th May 2018.
