East Midlands Trains announces start date for full services from Corby

Article posted on 07/04/2009

East Midlands Trains is very pleased to announce the launch of the new hourly train services from Corby to London on Monday 27 April.

This announcement comes after East Midlands Trains, working successfully with the Department for Transport, received confirmation that the third train needed to run the full services would be delivered in time for the planned start of service on 27 April.

As of Monday 27 April, East Midlands Trains will be providing fast, frequent services from Corby to London with 13 direct services a day in each direction.  The journey time from Corby to London will be 1 hour and 14 minutes, with trains calling at Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford and Luton. Tickets are now on sale, with prices starting from just £7* one way, and can be booked at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk, or through the ticket office at Corby station.

Transport Minister Andrew Adonis said:

"An hourly Corby to London service will be of real value to the travelling public in this part of Northamptonshire, and it is a prime example of how the Department can help train operators improve services for passengers now and in the future."

Commenting, David Horne from East Midlands Trains said:

“We’ve been successfully operating our daily business service since 23 February, and we’re now delighted to be announcing that our full service will start on 27 April.

“We know just how much excitement and enthusiasm there is for our new services between Corby and London, and we are extremely proud to bring train services back to Corby.

“We would like to thank all the partners involved for their dedication and support in getting the services up and running, and we are confident that passengers will take full advantage of our new fast and frequent services.”

Simon Evans, Chief Executive of North Northants Development Company, said:

“The launch of a full train service running between Corby and London St Pancras is a significant landmark in the continuing regeneration and growth of Corby. A great deal of work and investment by all the partners has gone into providing Corby with a train service that will benefit the town’s residents and businesses and the full service will help attract further investment in the town and the surrounding area.”

An official station opening will be taking place on the morning of Monday 27 April, and full details of this will be circulated in due course.

The partners involved in this successful station and regeneration project are Corby Borough Council, Department for Transport, East Midlands Development Agency (emda), East Midlands Trains, Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), Network Rail, North Northants Development Company and Northamptonshire County Council.  Further quotes from each partner organisation are available by contacting the appropriate press office.
