A short walk from the train station in Derby is the brand new Westfield shopping centre, with over 175 designer and high street shops. Derby is also home to the famous Royal Crown Derby china, which is still being produced at the oldest factory in the city.

The line links the World Heritage Site mills at Derby, Belper and Cromford. Just 12 minutes from Derby, take the train to Belper and join a tour of the historic mill which dates back to 1804; while a little further down the line, Cromford is steeped in industrial heritage and is home to the world’s first successful water-powered cotton mill, built by Sir Richard Arkwright. The site also has a number of quaint gift shops to browse. Nearby is Masson Mill Working Textile Museum, which is also home to a shopping village across four floors of this imposing building.

Take to the skies and ride the cable car to the caverns at the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, situated a minute’s walk from the train station, and enjoy breathtaking views of Derwent Valley. Alternatively experience life as a lead miner at the Peak District Mining Museum or the children’s rides at Gullivers’ Kingdom.

Matlock, in the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire countryside acts as a gateway to the Peak District National Park, with its lovely villages, picturesque landscape and impressive stately homes. Ramblers are in for a treat with walks through charming villages such as Whatstandwell and Cromford or romantics could take a stroll down Lovers Walk to the Derwent Gardens and relax by the river in Matlock Bath.

The Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership works with East Midlands Trains and other stakeholders to develop and promote the line.
