Advance tickets are available 12 weeks before travel

East Midlands Trains has a range of tickets to suit everyone. We sell Advance tickets with an exclusive £1 discount each way (£2 for a return journey), so our lowest price tickets are even cheaper here. We are cheaper than The Trainline, Red Spotted Hanky and Raileasy.

Train tickets are split into four main fare types, Advance, Super Off-Peak, Off-Peak and Anytime tickets which are explained below.

To find out more click on our handy Find the Right Ticket Guide.

We also have a range of business tickets and season tickets which are also explained below.

Advance train tickets are a great way to get cheap train tickets. If you want the best price ticket, can be flexible about when you travel, then this ticket is perfect for you.

Advance train tickets are available in First and Standard Class and are available to book up to 12 weeks in advance. Book early for the cheapest train tickets, although some Advance fares are still available up to 1800 the day before travel.

Advance tickets are only valid for travel on the specific train on which you reserve your seat, so be sure to travel on that train otherwise you will be required to buy a brand new, full fare ticket. To change Advance tickets before you travel, you can do so at the ticket office for a £10 admin fee, plus the price difference between tickets.  If flexibility is what you need, or you aren’t sure of your plans, try one of our more flexible train tickets below.

Advance tickets are subject to availability and cannot be purchased on a Smartcard.

Super Off-Peak

Super Off-Peak train tickets offer you a little more flexibility than Advance tickets. We have more available, particularly at weekends, and they work well if you can travel outside of peak hours.

Super Off-Peak tickets are available for trains that arrive into London St Pancras at or after 1126 and for departures from London St Pancras between 1029 and 1516 and at or after 1859 on weekdays.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Super Off-Peak train tickets are valid at any time of day, on trains to and from London St Pancras.

With Super Off-Peak tickets, you must make your outward journey on the date shown on the ticket, so they aren’t fully flexible; however, you can return on any valid train within one calendar month.

Off-Peak train tickets have more flexibility than Advance tickets and Super Off-Peak tickets. Reservations aren’t required and you can travel on most trains to and from London St Pancras, with the exception of the busiest peak-time weekday trains.

Less flexible than the Anytime ticket, Off-Peak tickets are cheaper and still offer the flexibility of travelling on any Off-Peak trains. Outward journeys must be on the date shown on the ticket, but return journeys can be on any Off-Peak train within a calendar month.

Off-Peak train tickets are valid for all services arriving into London St Pancras at or after 1005 and for trains departing London St Pancras between 0901 and 1626 and at or after 1859 on weekdays. On Fridays, you can travel on any train out of London St Pancras after 0901. If you are making a return journey, you can return on any train over the weekend.

Anytime train tickets are fully flexible and offer complete security when you can’t be certain of your travel times, or even if you might need to change the day you travel. Anytime tickets are valid on any train, at anytime, on any day.

With Anytime Return tickets, the outward journey must be made up to five days from the date of purchase. You can return on any train service within 28 days. An Anytime Day ticket must be used on the day of purchase. Anytime single tickets are valid for two days from the date of purchase.

Season Tickets

If you commute by train regularly, you can save on your journey with a Season ticket. You can buy a weekly Season ticket from our self-service ticket machines and Ticket Offices. You can buy monthly and annual Season tickets through this website.

Load your Season ticket onto a Smartcard for easier travel. Several main routes now have Smartcard readers at the station. See our Smartcard Route Map to see if your station is included.

Business Tickets

There is a full range of business tickets available to passengers, from cheap train tickets, to Season tickets with Breakfast and parking included.

First Plus Parking

First plus parking ticket has been introduced, which includes return travel and three days parking at selected stations.

Carnet tickets

For frequent, but not necessarily regular travellers, our Carnets offer a discount on business tickets. Sold as a booklet of five or ten Anytime tickets, which when bought together offer a discount, but retain travel flexibility.
